Princess Kate has once again demonstrated her commitment to sustainable fashion with a thoughtful reimagining of a beloved coatdress.

For this year’s Remembrance Sunday service, she showcased a modified version of her Catherine Walker & Co. black coatdress, which has undergone multiple transformations since its debut in 2020.

Bethan Holt, a fashion expert, praised Kate for embracing upcycling, especially following Prince William’s Earthshot tour. “We’ve seen Kate upcycle more lately, and I think it’s a great message to be sending, especially so soon after William’s Earthshot tour,” Holt told People.

The princess’s approach reflects a growing trend of reworking formal pieces, allowing her to maintain a fresh yet sustainable wardrobe. This coat, which once featured tasselled epaulettes, was first modified in 2022 when the tassels were removed for a visit before Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral.

This latest iteration at Remembrance Sunday highlights Kate’s ability to make timeless pieces feel new with subtle tweaks.

Kate’s commitment to reimagining her wardrobe extends beyond this single piece. Earlier this year, she reworked an outfit from the 2023 Coronation celebrations for Trooping the Colour. Notably, in 2019, she also altered a black and floral Alexander McQueen gown from the 2017 BAFTAs, adding capped sleeves for a new look.

On Remembrance Sunday, her fashion choices also carried a deeply personal touch, with jewellery selections that paid tribute to Queen Elizabeth II.

Holt noted, “I think Kate was showing remembrance on a wider level with her looks — not just those who lost their lives [in service], but there were nods to Queen Elizabeth and Diana, which gave her looks a very personal feel.”
