Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo just reacted to a Wicked-themed meme!

As the iconic duo, who have made headlines with their roles in the 2024 musical, became a target of social media memers, an uncanny “holding space” meme started making rounds on every platform during a series of Wicked’s promotion.

Speaking to Variety, the eternal sunshine hitmaker and the Broadway star recalled the rather bizarre interview with journalist Tracy E. Gilchrist for Out Magazine, through which the meme originated.

As the film’s closing number, Defying Gravity was discussed by Gilchrist, she claimed that fans were “taking the lyrics” and “really holding space with that.”

Originally, a shocked Erivo put a hand over her and said, “I didn’t know that was happening. That’s really powerful. That’s what I wanted.”

However, now, both the 37-year-old British actor and Grande admitted they had no idea what the journalist was talking about when they had responded to her.

“I was surprised, because I had no idea, because I hadn’t been looking,” The Outsider star admitted, not knowing what Gilchrist was referring to.

“She was like, ‘Well, I guess,’” the 7 Rings crooner chimed in over the journalist’s response when asked about meme.

“I had no idea that this thing was going on,” Erivo admitted.

While a blunter Grande stated, “So, I didn’t know what any part of it meant, I didn’t understand the first sentence. And then I definitely didn’t understand what was happening, how you responded.”

“I was like, ‘Oh, what did she say, and what did you hear?’ And I just wanted to be there [for Cynthia Erivo], because I knew something big was happening, and I didn’t know how to be there,” Ariana Grande concluded.
